Every kid at some point has dreamed of building a go kart. Depending on the complexity of what you are trying to accomplish, it’s not that hard as long as you have the best DIY Go Kart plans.

While I haven’t written the plans myself I have built a go karts from free plans that I have found on the internet (was not a good experience). So that’s why I am here today. I am going to pick out for you the only sets of free construction plans worth considering for building a kart.

The Best Free Go Kart Plans Online That You Can Build Yourself

I have searched through several sets of free kart building plans and have determined these 2 to be the most detailed and realistic builds. Each set of plans include written instruction (some have some video) photos, diagrams, and product lists so you can make a shopping list to get started.

The sets of plans I have identified are for a two seater adult go kart and a single seater go kart for kids. Both are motorized and can haul ass with the right build.

There are many different styles of go-cart plans here all the way from the modern to the old-fashioned ones. Be sure to scroll through them all before deciding which one you want to build. Lets get to the list…

Double Seater Go-Cart Plan from KartFab.com

Kart Fab

This is my favorite set of plans.

Kart Fab gives you a FREE 26-page detailed PDF that explains how to build this 2 seater. It includes material lists, tools, and parts that you will need to complete the build. The instructions are very specific and the diagrams were made in Auto CAD. The engineer of the plans will not release you his Auto CAD files so you cant edit them, but they are just fine in the PDF to execute the go kart build.

The plans are well organised and include all the steps for frame building to installing the seat, and the motor. There are ton of pictures included so they are easy to follow along.

This DIY go kart will actually reach speeds of up to 25mph and it performs well on the road, in the dirt, or in the grass.

Kids Single Seater Plans from Spider Karts

Spider Kart

Spider Karts has several sets of paid plans, but this kids style kart is free. All of their plans are named after species of spiders, but this little kart is called the Itzy Bitsy and measures 3 feet x 2 feet.

Spider Kart makes great sets of plans that include detailed specs and shows you step by step how to construct the kart. Also included is an estimate about what each part should cost and an overall total project cost.

I have seen some interesting mods on this set of plans were some folks make the back only one fat tire and it looks pretty cool. This kart is not as powerful as the Fab Kart we discussed above, but is extremely light weight so its pretty zippy when it comes to acceleration. If you put a child on this, they will definitely need a helmet.

Other DIY Free Go Kart Plans

There is a lot of crap online that is just not detailed enough and thoroughly explained. While I understand these other plans are free, the last thing you want to is spend your money, start building, and then find out the instructions are either not well written or detailed enough. Trust me on this I found out the hard way after spending a few hundred bucks and cutting my pipes, that the specs were wrong.

Conculsion

The two sets of free plans above are the absolute best I have come across. They are done with step by step instructions, product lists, etc. Don’t be fooled just cause other kart plans are listed as free..its free garbage. Try one of the two above and save yourself, money, time, and stress. Best of luck with your kart build!
